Over 5,000 dead following two massive earthquakes at Turkey-Syria border.

Two earthquakes at the Turkish–Syrian border have left over 5,000 dead (as of early morning on Feb. 7) with at least 5 times this number seriously wounded or missing, following the 7.8 and 7.5–magnitude quakes.

The quake struck in the early hours of Monday Feb. 6, while people were asleep, followed by a second quake a few hours later. Freezing temperatures have left thousands exposed to extreme cold and without shelter. Much of the quake area is populated by Syrian refugees, many of whom had already been living in overcrowded and unsafe conditions when the earthquakes struck.

There are over 3.6 million Syrian refugees now living in Turkey following the prolonged Syrian Civil War. The majority of these refugees live in southeastern Turkey in the area where the earthquakes struck.  NATAN Worldwide Disaster Relief has been working with Syrian refugees since 2015 and has been providing relief in natural disaster zones worldwide since 2004.

NATAN Medical and Assessment teams are already on their way. As always, our emergency relief volunteers are trained and ready to deploy immediately following a disaster. Wherever we go, NATAN team members speak the local languages, thus eliminating the need for intermediaries or interpreters.

Our volunteers, all experienced professionals give their time and offer their skills and experience. You can support their efforts with an emergency donation to the Relief Operation in Turkey. 95% of your donation will directly go to the field operation; no salaries, no overhead.
